Last year's Cali Vibes Music Festival was unforgettable for the incredible music, and also for its bold sustainability moves. One of the standout initiatives was turning the festival's stage banners, made from poly mesh, into trendy, eco-friendly bags. We partnered with Goldenvoice to bring this impactful project to life.
WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL WITH POLY MESH?
Poly mesh is a lightweight, durable material perfect for outdoor banners. However, its strength is also its downfall when it comes to the environment. Poly mesh is tough to break down, meaning if it ends up in a landfill, it'll be there for a long, long time (our data scientist Dr Cindy Lin told us up to 1000 years!). That's why repurposing these banners is a game-changer for the planet.
THE JOURNEY FROM BANNER TO BAG
Turning massive, heavy stage banners into cool bags is no small task. First, there's the challenge of cleaning and processing large pieces of material. It's labor-intensive, requiring a team dedicated to giving these banners a second life. Then comes the design phase, where the goal is to use as much of the material as possible. This means getting creative with every inch of fabric, even crafting the bag handles from the same poly mesh scrim to ensure minimal waste.
DESIGN SPEAKS VOLUMES
The finished product is something truly special, and we’re proud to bring these back to Cali Vibes 2024 reborn. These bags aren't just practical; they're a statement. Each one is a piece of festival history.
MADE WITH LOVE IN LOS ANGELES
Everything about these bags is local—from the material sourced from the festival stages to the hands that craft each bag in Los Angeles. This local production not only supports our community but also reduces the carbon footprint associated with transporting goods long distances.
This project was an experiment in what's possible when we rethink what we do with materials after they've served their initial purpose. Thanks to Goldenvoice's dedication to sustainability and your support, we're able to make projects like this a reality. It's a win for fashion, a win for local production, and most importantly, a win for our planet.
